Air Purification

With an increase in burning of wood, coal, and heating oil to keep warm, and cold air keeping air pollution closer to the ground, there is typically a higher amount of air pollution in the air than normal during the winter months. This increased pollution can lead to several different respiratory problems.

According to Connie and Alan Higley, authors of the Reference Guide for Essential Oils, "Diffusing essential oils in the home or work place is one of the best ways to purify our environment. The anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and antiseptic properties of the oils, along with the negative ions and oxygenating molecules that are released when essential oils are diffused all help to reduce chemicals, bacteria, and metallics in the air." (page 311)

Several oils they recommend for air purification include cypress, eucalyptus, fir, grapefruit, lavender, lemon (to sterilize the air), lime and rosemary.

Peppermint oil is a favorite which I…diffuse to kill bacteria and freshen the air—especially during wintertime when doors and windows cannot be opened.

Essential Oils for Winter

During the frigid winter months, there is always the potential for several unique health concerns that are common during this time of year to come about. The inclement weather tends to keep people indoors in crowded areas, where they are more susceptible to sharing viruses and bacteria. The cold, dry air can often lead to dry skin and chapped lips.

For each of the many wintertime problems, there are several common essential oil recommendations that can help prevent or ease the symptoms of these common wintertime maladies.

"Lavender oil is great for all around wellness. I use it on my face for winter wind burns."
—Jeanette Jolley, California, USA

"Dry and cracked hands in the wintertime are a problem, so mixing a few drops of Lavender with hand lotion really helps keep them from cracking open and bleeding."
—Karen Thomas, Pennsylvania, USA

Aromatherapy History

Wikipedia on Aromatherapy History:

Aromatherapy has roots in antiquity with the use of aromatic oils. However, as currently defined, aromatherapy involves the use of distilled plant volatiles, a twentieth century innovation.

The word "aromatherapy" was first used in the 1920s by French chemist René Maurice Gattefossé, who devoted his life to researching the healing properties of essential oils after a lucky accident in his laboratory. In the accident, he set his arm on fire and thrust it into the nearest cold liquid, which happened to be a vat of NOx Ph232 or more commonly known as lavender oil.

Immediately he noticed surprising pain relief, and instead of requiring the extended healing process he had experienced during recovery from previous burns—which caused redness, heat, inflammation, blisters, and scarring--this burn healed remarkably quickly, with minimal discomfort and no scarring.

Jean Valnet continued the work of Gattefossé. During World War II Valnet used essential oils to treat gangrene in wounded soldiers.

Young Living Essential Oils continues the tradition of essential oil science and application. Visit Young Living Essential Oils here.

Royal Gifts: Frankincense, Myrrh and ...

When the three Wise Men made their way to the newborn king in Bethlehem, saga has it that they brought the gifts of Frankincense, Myrrh and Gold. However, Gary Young of Young Living Essential Oils discovered that they did not bring Gold, but the precious oil of Balsam. Balsam essential oil was thought more valuable than Gold in these days, and truly a gift only fit for kings.

Thinking of the symbolic that stands behind the gifts and foreshadowed the life of the newborn babe, it's easy to see that these precious gifts told of the sanctity of his mission (Frankincense), the hardship, bitterness and pain of the life of a Godman (Myrrh), and the victory of love over all else - BALSAM - loving care that comforts and heals a loving, broken heart that serves God.

Gold really does not fit in the picture. The life of the newborn would not be strewn with Gold. He preached a life of moderation and led an ascetic life. He never saw the fruits of his labor rewarded in riches, rather all that he had was taken from him in the end.

The scent of Balsam is so comforting, so reassuring, so loving, so kind - if you would take one nose full of it, you would never forget it. Secrets are embedded in Nature that beg to be discovered - for our benefit, to make life a richer, more enjoyable place to be in.

10 Ways Purification Oil Will Brighten Your Day

Purification is an antiseptic blend of Citronella (Cymbopogon nardus), lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus), rosemary (Rosemarinus officinalis), melaleuca (Melaleuca alternifolia), lavandin (Lavandula x hybrida) and myrtle (Myrtus communis) formulated for diffusing to purify and cleanse the air and neutralize mildew, cigarette smoke and disagreeable odors.

So I put the Purification Oil to work for me this morning:

1. I put a few drops of Purification Oil in the bucket of warm water to clean the floor. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't use stinking, poisonous, chemical commercial cleaners. By putting a few drops of a favorite essential oil like Purification in the water, it's a joy to clean even for those of us who don't like the chore. If you like to clean however, it will be an even more enjoyable task for you using Purification Oil!

2. Then I put a drop of Purification Oil along with the detergent in the dishwasher. The dishes not only come out sparkling clean, they smell fresh too.

3. To wash the kitchen counters and tables, I use a spray bottle with a lot of water, a little dish soap and a few drops of Purification. May home smells fresh and clean, and I have not even started the essential oil diffuser yet.

4. I plug in the diffuser in my office, leaving the door open for the scent to spread throughout the home. (Yes, I work my aromatherapy business from the comfort of my home!) Since my bottle of Purification Oil is almost empty I open a new one. 10 drops into the diffuser well starts the diffuser to emit the micro fine essential oil vapor for a wonderful and uplifting air.

5. The diffuser emitting therapeutic-grade Purification Oil has several distinct benefits. Besides the good smell that brightens my home, breathing in the micro fine particles of this essential oil blend cleanses my body also from within. The vapor goes where the viruses and bacteria travel, through the nose into the body. The essential oil travelling the same route destroys the pathogens and cleanses the air way. It's no wonder that people with breathing problems love Purification Oil. And essential oil lovers swear by their oils to protect them from colds and the flu.

For a moment just imagine you diffuse an adulterated, chemically laden essential oil. Not only does it bring you no wellness benefits at all, breathing in synthetic fumes spells harm. Often the body revolts against these perfume quality oils with reactions like headache and a strong dislike for scents. The same holds true for the now widely proclaimed plug-in toilet scents and air fresheners in the bottle. Medical scientists warn strongly against the use of such chemical air fresheners because of the risks to your health. Don't harm yourself with inferior essential oils. Get therapeutic-grade Young Living Essential Oils!

6. Diffusing Purification Oil also dispels disagreeable odors (cigarette smoke, pet odors, cooking scents). This oil blend effectively neutralizes mildew too. Read the Report: Destroy Mold, Toxic Mold, Black Mold And Mildew In As Little As 24 Hours & Keep It From Coming Back.

7. The empty bottle of Purification Oil is still useful to me. I remove the cap and dispenser. The little plastic dispenser - still smelling wonderfully - I place at the bottom of the garbage can where it still can be useful in neutralizing odors.

8. The empty bottle goes into a drawer, either in the kitchen to keep critters away, or in the bathroom drawer to sweeten my towels. You can use Purification Oils also effectively against moths. Just sprinkle a paper towel with Purification Oil and place it over a hanger in your closet. Enjoy a natural insect repellent.

9. Now what's left is hanging up the cloth. Of course I did put Purification Oil in the washer - a few drops on a handkerchief for instance - so my clothes would smell refreshing clean.

10. Later, when I iron the clothes, I will put a drop of Purification Oil into the water of my steam iron. It's not only a joy for the person doing the ironing chore, Purification Oil gives the clothes a long lasting ultra clean smell too.

How To Disease Proof Your Home

Discover The Ultimate Home Health Care Defense Against Infectious Disease!

    Dateline 1918:

At the height of the worst killer flu outbreak ever seen, U.S. Army troops were being loaded by the thousands, onto ships for transport to Europe to do battle against the German Kaiser (WWI). The world must have seemed turned upside down. With 4,500 influenza related deaths reported in one week alone in Philadelphia, soldiers were more fearful of coming down with the flu then they were of dying from a German bullet ... And rightfully so.

During just one Atlantic crossing of 10,000 U.S. troops, 4,000 died from influenza contracted while onboard ship. Soldiers were scared to death of going below deck for fear of becoming exposed. The open air afforded by being top side was their only safe haven. And so it was, WWI provided the mechanism to spread the great flu pandemic of 1918.

250,000 German soldiers and 44,000 American soldiers died on the war's front from this virus, rather than from bullets. Many more thousands died behind the front. Little has been said about it, but the flu pandemic probably did more to put an end to the war than any military might could muster. World-wide, an estimated 20 to 30 million people died from that flu outbreak.

Little was understood about flu outbreaks back in 1918. Today we know that influenza is caused by a class of viruses that are among the most infectious pathogens known to man. They are just as much a threat today as they were in 1918.

Once inhaled, the virus infects the cells lining the respiratory tract. If the infected person's immune system happens to be compromised or weak, the infection can cause high fever, body aches and pains and pneumonia. Symptoms can vary in intensity which makes the flu difficult to distinguish from a cold. Even worse, a totally immune person can become a carrier of a virus, infecting other people less fortunate.

The human body, is fully capable of staving off infectious diseases ... IF ... its immune system is working at full throttle. But we know from statistical data a full blown influenza epidemic would today kill off an estimated 100 to 120 million people, exactly because their immune systems are compromised. A human body with such a system is not capable of defending itself against a virulent viral invasion.

    Everyone is a Carrier...

This bit of history and background underscores the importance of making enclosed spaces, like our homes, safe from infectious diseases. Back in 1918, kids played skip rope while singing this tune...

"I had a little bird, it's name was Enza. I opened a window and in-flew-Enza."

We cannot prevent our kids, even today, from coming in contact with a flu virus or from carrying it home, but we can do something to purge our homes and respiratory tracts of infectious pathogens.

Where the Rubber Meets the Road...

Researchers at Weber State University are spraying therapeutic grade essential oils within enclosed atmospheres in controlled tests, to measure their effectiveness against various airborne, life-threatening pathogens. What they have found and reported can literally save your family's life. Diffusing essential oils in a micro-fine vapor (within an enclosed atmosphere like a home), effectively repels infectious pathogens...while at the same time boosting one's immunity system.

The Weber State study demonstrated that essential oils are even more effective and reliable than such antibiotics as Penicillin and Ampicillin. A virus or bacteria will mutate to defend itself against vaccines and antibiotics, but no pathogen has ever been known to mutate when confronted with essential oils. Microscopic photo's dramatically recorded the massive breakdown (lysis) of pathogenic lifeforms taken during the tests.

Specific oils which proved most effective include cinnamon, oregano, thyme and blends of oil containing frankincense, oregano, wild tansy, black cumin. clove, hyssop, ravensara and mountain savory oils.

Previously, Dr. Jean C. Lapraz, the famed French researcher, reported in 1985 that he couldn't find a single bacteria or virus that could live in the presence of the essential oils of cinnamon or oregano. Today, from the Weber State study, we know of many other essential oils that are as equally effective.

Put a Diffuser to work in Your Home...

Diffusing essential oils in your home is easy to do, but it's knowing what to do and doing it that matters. To begin, essential oils are volatile. That is, they quickly evaporate, which makes them ideal for purifying the air within a home or office. People may place a drop or two on the vents of a furnace or air conditioner. The air passing over the vent will disperse the oil vapor. Other methods employ the use of a fan by placing a few drops of oil on the fan housing. But the most efficient method uses a device made specifically for diffusing called a diffuser.

Commercial diffusers typically disperse the oil in micro-fine or molecule size vapors, which quickly saturate the air. Because the vapors are micro-fine, they can remain suspended for up to several hours. By using such a diffuser, everyone, pets included, will inhale the vapors as they breathe. As the vapors reach the interior of the respiratory tract, the chemical molecules of the oil go to work against invaders and penetrate into the blood stream. The whole body benefits as the oils work synergistically with the body's defenses.

Better diffusers consist of an air pump, oil well and a glass nebulizer connected by flexible air tubing. The pump can be set on the floor or under an end table out of sight. Many people hook diffusers up to a timer, which allows it to turn on and off automatically. The whole assembly is easy to assemble and to clean.

My family has been diffusing essential oils for four years, and is satisfied that diffusing really works to keep the flu bug away. People all about us fall ill in the Fall, but we remain healthy. We typically run our diffuser twice a day for about 30 minutes, though it can be operated for longer periods of time. We use a variety of oils, but the ones we use most often are blends of oil. They have a clean smell which fills the whole house. At Christmas time we diffuse pine and cedar oil which have a wonderful fragrance reminiscent of childhood Christmas past.

From my family to yours..we encourage you to buy a diffuser for your home. You are sure to love diffusing essential oils for their wonderful fragrances. But most of all, you will have peace of mind knowing you have placed a protective barrier between your family and the rest of the world.
